Old Guo spent just 5,000 yuan ($800) and countless man-hours rebuilding a pint-sized Lamborghini to take his grandson to and from school. The quirky replica has attracted the attention of local media and, doubtless, the admiration of young Guo’s fellow students.

The battery-powered car is approximately two metres long and one metre wide and has a comfortable cruising speed of 60km per hour.

Guo’s motor has some of the flair and functionality as the original, coming complete with scissor sliding doors and Lambo logos on the steering wheel and bumper.

Unfortunately, local traffic police have classified the machine as a toy, meaning it cannot travel on public roads and can only be used at low speeds in the local neighbourhood. When interviewed, the traffic police claimed there was no specific licensing infrastructure for homemade imitation sports cars.

Nevertheless, Old Guo remains determined and is already working on two more sports car replicas for other family members.
