Several European universities are researching and developing a Personal Aerial Vehicle (PAV funded by a $4.7m EU grant.

Designed to avoid the problems of heavy traffic, the PAV will be a cross between a car and a helicopter and will incorporate features like obstacle avoidance, path planning and formation flying.

The myCopter project will involve test models using unmanned aerial vehicles, motion simulators and a manned helicopter.

Researchers are also planning to study the human capability of flying a PAV.
