Previously a voluntary code, Article 6 is has become mandatory, only exempting lubricants which are manufactured in Indonesia for the export market.

SNI marking will indicate lubricants that meet the standard, with manufacturers or importers legally responsible for the quality of their lubricants being sold into the market.

Both manufacturers and importers must apply for SPPT-SNI Lubricants approval through TÜV-NORD Indonesia, a German-based provider of high-tech engineering services.

All foreign companies must also appoint an in-country representative as an importer.
