Toyota is amongst several automotive manufacturers who will be launching new turbo-engined petrol vehicles in the coming year.

The company is set to launch the 2.0 litre Lexus compact crossover as part of its plan to roll-out next generation turbo gasoline engines across its portfolio in an effort to improve fuel economy. Toyota's full turbo strategy has yet to be announced.

Subaru is also planning a Japanese-only launch of the 1.6-litre direct-injection turbo engine offered on the Levorg compact wagon next spring. According to the company, the new turbo will give better fuel economy than its 2.0 litre counterpart and has a power output equal to a 2.5 litre engine.

Meanwhile, Honda has unveiled three VTEC turbocharged engines with 1, 1.5 and 2-litre capacities.
