ChineseĀ  megastar pianist, Lang Lang, was named International Artist of the Year at the Classic Brit Awards during a lavish ceremony in London's Royal Albert Hall, much to the delight of his diehard fanbase at home and abroad.

"This is a historical moment for me", said the Shenyang-born pianist, who celebrated the achievement with a rendition of the traditional Armenian folk song "Sabre Dance", which he performed alongside fellow award-winner, violinist Nicola Benedetti.

The award was given for both exemplary concert skills and also the promotion of classical music worldwide.

The philanthropic musician vowed the award would not distract him from his charitable work, especially his involvement in the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, and the eponymous Lang Lang Music Academy in Shenzhen.

"I hope I do not just improve myself. I will also improve the skills of young musicians." Students who joined the costly academy "play much better than they did last year", claimed the pianist, who is also planning a new collaboration with Elton John.
