Live auto braking and driver assistance demonstration

Thatcham Research has given a live demo of automatic emergency braking (AEB).

With auto braking on trucks set to become a legal requirement for all new HGVs over 7.5t from November 2015, the research company provided a nail biting demonstration of AEB at work in a Volvo truck.

The live demo showed how radar, lasers and optical sensors can identify other vehicles (and often pedestrians warn the driver and apply the brakes if the driver doesn't respond in time to avoid the accident.

Thatcham Research has set up a Twitter feed to encourage support for AEB - #stopthecrash

Glass's, the motor trade's leading price guide, believes that intelligent braking systems are set to become one of the must-haves for motorists, along with lane departure and blind spot monitoring.
