As reported by OATS in February this year, the new American Petroleum Institute (API) PC-11 performance specifications for heavy-duty engine oils are now a reality, with two sub-divisions for producers to contend with.

The split has created the backward-compatible API CK-4 category, and API FA-4 which is aimed at future development of more fuel-efficient and durable lubes products for the trucking and heavy-duty off-road market.

Because the latter is not backwards-compatible, education of end-users will be vital. The new specifications are "the most complex category developments in the history of our industry,” according to Steve Haffner, North American market manager of leading producer, Infineum USA.

To help with the education process, Infineum has created a series of videos, graphics and articles which are easily accessible and include explanations of why the specification was created, the tests involved, why it was created and any latest news.
