Shell wants closer links between OEMs and lubricant suppliers

Truck manufacturers can reduce costs of ownership if they link to lubricant suppliers.

Truck manufacturers need to take a collaborative approach to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and at the same time, protect the environment, according to Shell.   According to the European-based oil giant, meeting this twin challenge will happen more rapidly and effectively if there is greater collaboration between OEMs and the lubes producers.

Shell believes that bringing OEMs together with lubricant suppliers will allow the right lubricants to be chosen and developed, with the lubes being co-engineered to ensure the most effective fuel economy and emissions reduction.

Shell is already working closely with Daimler Trucks in Europe and, although not a new approach within the lubes industry, is clearly aiming to boost collaboration to help both auto and lubes manufacturers meet the increasingly stringent emissions standards being set around the world.
