The study, part of the Texaco Truck Research Report from Fusion Research, revealed that 51% of fleet operators in the UK had improved their fuel efficiency in 2013 over previous years simply by monitoring tyre pressures.

Supported by Chevron Lubricants and Continental Tyres, Fusion questioned 500 operators about their attitudes to tyres and tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). Despite nearly all (98%) of respondents being aware of the impact of tyre pressure on fuel efficiency, only 42% claimed to regularly monitor their vehicle fleet tyre pressures.

Studies carried out by Continental have also shown that most tyre failures start with slow leaks which cause gradual loss of tyre pressure leading to lower fuel consumption, tyre damage and costly delays.
