Barbie goes technical

Bookmark and Share

Children's doll and global fashion icon, Barbie,  is now getting serious about her career.  Not satisfied with 124 previous careers including scuba diving, horse riding and glamour modelling, Barbie has now turned to computer engineering.

Computer Engineer BarbieApparently the result of a people's vote, the 2010 career of choice for Barbie is Computer Engineer. Naturally, the doll comes attired in a suitably computer-themed wardrobe, but also has her own laptop, bluetooth headset and smartphone.  The winning occupation for Barbie as voted for by girls alone is News Anchor.

There is, however, a serious side to the latest marketing hype of the Barbie "I Can Be" range, demonstrating the way attitudes of girls towards media and technology are now being boosted.  To that end, the UK Resource Centre for Women has run an 'interview' with Barbie on its blog, in which she talks about the 50 million users now visiting Barbie interactive websites and her desire to inspire a new generation to explore the computer industry and it's opportunities for future leadership by women.

You go girl!
