Pertamina to build lubes plant

Bookmark and Share

Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas producer, Pertamina, is aiming to set up an Asian lubricants plant.

With a budget of around Rp 308bn ($35m), the company is looking for a suitable site in either Japan or China, with feasibility studies already underway.

The new plant will help to boost the company's ambitious growth plans.  With product sales of 458 kilolitres last year, Pertamina is aiming at a 20% increase to around 546,000 kilolitres in 2011.

The Jakarta-based company already sells products to 10 countries including Australia, Belgium, Pakistan, Singapore and Taiwan and is looking to Saudi Arabia and European countries, particularly Germany, for expansion.

The location of the new plant is also specifically aimed at boosting local sales, with both Japan and China described by the company as "the sexiest markets in Asia".
