Total invests in Northern China plant

French-based Total is to create a new company and build a lubes plant to invest in the rapidly expanding Chinese lubricants market.

Total logoTotal will create Tianjin Lubrication Oil Blending Plant as a subsidiary of Total China and will invest €30m ($42.6m) in the new lubes plant that will be built in Tanjin, a coastal city in the North of China

The operation is set to open by the end of 2012 with a production capacity of 200,000 metric tons of lubricants and greases annually and will strengthen Total's existing plants in Guangdong and Jiangsu Provinces.

As well as refining premium automotive products, the plant will produce lubes and greases for the marine market.
