ASTM working on new ETBE test method

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is working to develop a new test method for Ethyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether (ETBE).

he new standard will be named ASTM WK30961 and will use gas chromatography for analysing ETBE.  The new test, being established by ASTM's International Committee DO2 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants will ensure a recent DO2-approved specification for ETBE will be fully compliant with the organisation's Form and Style standards.

No date has been given for the final approval of the test methodology, but with ETBE playing such a major role in gasoline blending for the automotive and aviation industries, the ASTM will be keen to complete the work as soon as possible.
