Shell has launched an alternative to traditional plastic lubes packaging with its new Ecobox™ System.

The Ecobox™ System packs Shell motor oil into a bag which is then packed into a cardboard carton.  According to the oil giant, the packaging allows better speed, ease of use and faster drain while leaving very little residue.

The system is also more environmentally acceptable, with the plastic liner resulting in 89% less plastic landfill waste than the 24 traditional quart bottles it replaces.  The carton itself is fully recycleable and the whole package has been designed as part of Shell's 'smarter mobility' programme.

Shell intend to introduce the system initially in the US, with a view to a global roll-out in the future.
