Named Mobil AGL Synthetic Aviation Gear Lubricant, or Mobil AGL for short, the product is specificaly designed for high-performance military and civilian helicopters performing in extreme conditions.

The product focus is on wear protection and resistance at higher heat and stress conditions than Type I and II turbine oils, with Exxon's tests showing single-engine overhaul periods for main rotor transmissions increasing by 1,000 hours to 4,000 hours if Mobil AGL is used exclusively.

The synthetic lube has a lower density than the lower spec turbine oils, which helps to reduce weight, as well as offering a higher natural viscosity index combined with a specialist additive to address temperature issues.
