Having announced Dexos, its new dedicated engine oil specification, General Motors has now launched its first own-brand lubes products to meet the standard.

GM dexos2 product packsUnder the brand name dexos2, GM have launched their own engine oil brand using it's  UK Vauxhall brand to test the market.  The new products meet GM's self-imposed dexos specifications which were finalised in 2009 and will be mandatory for all GM vehicles globally by 2011.  It was recently revealed that GM expected the dexos programme to be funded by its licencees.

The Dexos2 range is designed for petrol, diesel and alternative fuel engines and sits in the Mid-SAPS (lowered sulphated ash, phosphorous and sulphur content) category of lubricants.   According to Vauxhall, the synthetic is a blend of "high-performance" base oils and "state-of-the art" additives and is aimed at reducing fuel consumption and cutting emissions.
