Sri Lanka looks to expand
The new Hambantota Port project in Sri Lanka is set to help the country double its lubricants imports.
Currently, Sri Lanka's lubes use totals 45,000 kilolitres annually. However, Petroleum Industry Minister, Susil Premajayantha is looking to double that volume once the port project opens in December 2010 and the s Hambantota International Airport project also becomes operational.
Currently, 14 companies import lubricant oil into Sri Lanka, although the government is considering increasing the number of available import licences. The majority, 34,000 kilolitres, of the country's lubes market is for engine oil, with around 11,000 kilolitres being used for other forms of transport and manufacturing.
