ACEA agrees electric charging standards

Standardisation is always a challenge with electronics and electrical goods.  Now the European automaker's association has agreed a single specification for car charging points.

The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has defined joint specs for the automakers in the method electric vehicles are connected to charging points.  The agreement will allow the European Union to move forward in determining a standard interface between the vehicles and the electricity infrastructure of member countries.

As well as providing definitive guidance for local government departments who are increasingly setting up charging points in public car parks, garages, etc; the specification, which has received input from Japanese and South Korean manufacturers, could also become a global standard.
