Nexcel unit being changed

The Nexcel single oil unit has been developed with the ultra-quick-change in mind. Created from a single unit oil cell containing both oil and filter, Nexcel can be removed from the car and a new one fitted in just a minute and a half - an average saving of about 18 and a half minutes.

A major benefit of the sealed unit is that it prevents contamination of both the new and used oil - the latter being re-refined back into a motor lubricant.

Fitted as standard in the new Aston Martin Vulcan track-only supercar, the technology delivers a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions on modern engines, "because it allows the engine to work more efficiently, to warm up and then enables precision lubrication", claims Nexcel's chief engineer Oliver Taylor.

Castrol is claiming that the technology can re-use engine oil so effectively that, if every car was fitted with the Nexcel unit, it would save 200,000 road tankers' worth of oil being produced every year.

The revolutionary oil cell is expected to be fitted to road-going cars within five years.
