According to Baidu Inc, the most searched-for content in 2013 remained roughly similar to the year before, although novels, education, film and TV, which have all moved up the search engine's rankings.

Perhaps rather unhelpfully, the online giant ranks the most popular content search as "others", dominating 36.8% of internet searches, followed by more definitive searches of "flim & TV" at 14.4%, "shopping" at 10.8%, "education" at 9.1% and games at "7.8%".

Interestingly, marginally more people searched for "cars" (1.8%) than for "news" (1.7% although this could also be explained by bookmarked 'go-to' news sites that need to be searched less often.

There was also a promising rise in searches for "novels", which increased by 3.1% to 4.2% of total searched content, and education - which increased by 6.2% to 9.1% of searches. Netizens may be more interested in new cars than news, but at least they are becoming more educated in the process.
