Caterham Cars, which is best known worldwide for its sportscars based on the orginal Lotus Seven, is set to launch a new motorcycle range.  The Caterham bikes will be based on three prototype models:

  • The Brutus 750 which has chunky tyres and is designed for off-road riding. More importantly, according to Caterham, it will be the first motorcycle with an automatic transmission.
  • Classic E-Bike - an all-electric bike with retro-styling with a claimed range of 25-30 miles from a fully charged battery.
  • Carbon E-Bike which is a modern all-electric bike inspired by F1's KERS technology.

Production of the bikes will begin in Spring 2014. Although it will reach the European, US and South American markets first, Caterham believes Asia will ultimately become the core revenue earner for its two-wheeled range.

The bike division is the latest arm of an expanding Caterham empire which already includes the Caterham F1 Team, Caterham Racing (GP2 Caterham Technology & Innovation, Caterham Composites and the Caterham Moto Racing Team.
