Chevron completes lubes plant in Tianjin

American oil major, Chevron, completes a 150,000 tons-per-year facility in one of China’s major port cities.

The US producer, formerly the world’s largest oil company, has completed construction of a large lubricants production facility in Tianjin. When it comes fully online, the plant will be capable of producing between 70,000 and 150,000 tons of finished lubricants annually.

Chevron management’s goals for the Tianjin plant, in which it invested over $20m in 2010, will be to satisfy the domestic market's growing demands for lubricants products.

The Fortune 500 company has a long history in the Middle Kingdom, first entering China in 1913. By 1936 it had begun distributing petroleum products and lubricants under the Caltex brand.
