The specialist chemicals producer has reinforced it's commitment to developing products tailored to the Chinese market by moving its technical operations to a larger facility.

Evonik Industries' Oil Additives Technology Center contains state-of-the-art testing equipment and will enable the company to support regional demands for advanced additives products.

According to Asia-Pacific regional manager for Evonik Oil's business line Wei Kiat Tan, the company is "proud to be keeping pace with China's fast-growing lubricants market and providing additional technical service capabilities to our customers." Since Evonik established its first technology centre in Shanghai in 2005, the Chinese lubricants market has grown by more than 50%, claims Wei.

The company claims its products, produced under the VISCOPLEX and VISCOBASE brands, significantly increase fuel efficiency and save energy. Testing on engine oils, driveline fluids and gear oils showed the additives greatly improved efficiency. Industrial and off-highway equipment tests also yielded double-digit improvements in efficiency.

One of the key functionalities at the new facility will be to carry out ROBO tests - industry standard tests developed by Evonik that are a key measure of engine oil specifications. The company will also add new staff to its comprehensive testing facility.
