A recent Mailjet survey has revealed that US companies send an average of almost 1.5m marketing or transactional e-mails every month, slightly ahead of two key European nations.

Conducted between September and October 2014, the survey also compared email with other online marketing methods and revealed the following:

• 88% of respondents from the US reported sending transactional e-mails, compared with 87% for Germany and 86% for France.

• The US leads the way in social media marketing at 90% compared with 78% for both France and Germany.

• France (78%) is just behind the US (80%) in mobile and text-message marketing, while Germany is some way behind at 65%.

According to the survey, the US has larger contact databases than the other two countries, with the mean number of subscribers at around 531k compared to France and Germany's 492k and 467k respectively.

The US is also well ahead of its European peers in testing the impact of email marketing.
