Google's Desert Street View...by camel

Google has filmed the desert for a brand new Street View, using a camel.

Raffia, a ten year-old camel was equipped with Google's Street View cameras to film the desert around Liwa Oasis in Abu Dhabi.

The camel was led by a local guide

Dubbed "Camel Cam" by Sky News, the exercise was described as the "most authentic" way of taking photographs of the area, with the internet giant succeeding in creating panoramic shots without damaging the environment by using its normal camera vehicles.

Google used a local guide to walk the camel in the cooler early hours of the morning when Liwa was at its quietest. The photos were then digitally stitched together to create  wonderful online views.

Although Google have not revealed any further intentions for animal-based photography, "Llama Cam" in South America or "Yak Cam" in Nepal may be possibilities for the future.
