As competition for the passenger car lubricants segment intensifies, China's oil companies are responding to demand for more specialised products.

Great Wall Lubricants, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Company, has now released a product specially designed for use in the nation's enormous taxi fleet.

Taxis face a host of difficult driving conditions such as constant low-speed travel, long interval use and frequent stopping and starting. This can cause rapid wear at higher temperatures and can also lead to a build up of residue on moving parts and has been the subject of research by lubes developers around the world in recent years.

Great Wall Lubes claims its new purpose-blended product will reduce wear and increase economy over time. This is especially important in a low-margin enterprise, such as owning an running a taxi in many Chinese cities.

The lubricant meets API SM standards and, claims Great Wall, has greater abrasion resistance and detergency properties than many SL grade taxi lubes currently in use.
