India is seeing a new trend in online marketing amongst its larger cities. With the internet becoming the supermarket of choice, sales of Black 'Murrah' buffalo with short and tightly curled horns are commonplace, at just Rs. 80,000 ($1,300 while a herd of 10 'Holstein Friesian' cows will set you back Rs. 6 lakh ($10,000).

States like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa, Assam and Uttar Pradesh are buying from India's online classifieds players such as Quikr and Olx.  Cities classified as Tier 2 and 3, account for more than 50% of Quikr's sales traffic. Now, the trend is reaching the small towns and cities including Jaipur, Surat and Cochin.

Rural India is used to high volumes of trading in valuable dairy animals, but the increased reach and speed of access to online classifieds has brought the market into the modern age.

Farm animals and pets are not the only unusual items being sold online in India - Bombardier jets, Bhagavad Gita lockets and an antique Rolls Royce have also come up for sale.
