Miller goes technical in Azerbaijan

UK independent is hailed as part of the "Contract of the Century".

Production started at the new facilities in Baku, Azerbaijan, after an opening ceremony at the end of 2017.  The site is a technical development and production plant built in conjunction with the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science (ANAS) in the city's High Technology Park.

The company sees the plant as an opportunity to develop production of a range of high-performance lubricants for both domestic Azerbaijani markets and to establish a presence further afield in Eastern and Central Asia.

Miller's presence in the country is the culmination of development of the UK Azerbaijan Partnership Programme, part of a longer-term strategy by the Asian nation to develop its Contract of the Century. The Contract, now almost 25 years old, is aimed at exploiting the country's energy and technology potential, both at home and overseas.

The 50-50 joint venture between the lubes producer and the ANAS will include the use of locally-produced base oil, with the site boasting lubes capacity of around 13m litres annually.
