New Caterpillar strategy for Tier 4 Interim products

The new strategy, developed for interim products in lesser regulated countries,  is partly driven by the need to ensure the company's customers maintain the resale value of their used equipment.

For example, engine systems between 156 and 895 kW (7 to 32 litre engines) will not need any modification.  For units of 156 kW or less, CAT will offer modification processes through local dealerships to remove after-treatment from machine and commercial engine configurations, allowing them to be used in countries where emissions and other operating regulations are less stringent.

According to Caterpillar, the strategy is a result of the enormous diversity of regulation across the world for off-highway vehicles including fuel quality and sulphur content.  By being able to adapt and/or decertify vehicles for certain markets, operators will be able to enhance their chances of re-sale into the lesser regulated countries.
