PSA Peugeot Citroën is top in Europe for emissions reduction

Peugeot Citroën tops Euro carmakers for reducing emissions.

The Group's average for its new vehicles of 110.3 grams of CO2 per kilometre, helped it to regain its top position ahead of French rival and last year's winner, Renault.  The figure was significantly lower than Europe's average of 123.7 grams.

The figure is established by taking the average homologated NEDC combined-cycle CO2 emissions of all PSA Peugeot Citroën passenger cars registered in 2014 across 22 EU nations (excluding Greece, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Malta).

The Group has earned its place largely through its engine down-sizing strategy as well as the introduction of new PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engines and new-generation, fuel-efficient BlueHDi diesel engines.

Lighter weight models have also contributed to the reduction in emissions.  Nearly 30% of vehicles sold by Peugeot Citroën in 2014 emitted less than 100 grams of CO2.
