QVC gets internet revenue boost


Online and mobile channels have significantly boosted revenues for QVC's owners.

Liberty Interactive Corp reported an uplift in Q2 sales largely as a result of e-commerce sales.  In fact, with QVC.com delivering 43% of the Group's income, it is clear that the internet offers significant sales opportunities for Liberty.

According to Liberty CEO, Mike George, Europe and China were particularly happy hunting grounds for the shopping channel highlighting that customer retention was strengthened by the complementary nature of the online and mobile offering. In the US alone, 40% of e-commerce sales were made using mobile technology.

With online revenues up 7.4% year-on-year at $779m in the US, total QVC saales delivered $2bn-worth of sales, with $662m coming from overseas markets. The average order value was a fraction more than $57, a percentage point increase on 2013.

The latest figures will be good news for product marketers looking to combine more traditional TV-based sales with digital channels and serves to further reinforce consumer growth derived from mobile marketing.
