Aston Martin has signed an agreement with China's Letv in Germany to produce connected cars. Aston Martin will build on its Rapide E technology and Letv will be responsible for powertrain and Internet of Vehicles technology.

The British luxury marque will also rely on Letv's media and marketing know-how to promote the brand online and help drive sales. Letv is one of China's largest online video services that also provides phones, televisions, e-commerce, finance and cloud computing services.

Meanwhile, Chinese carmaker Geely Automobile Holdings has teamed up with Sweden's Ericsson to develop services for connected cars. The two companies will start developing a mobile appplication that helps vehicle owners remotely monitor their cars and activate security systems. They are also building in expected range gauges and automatically books in services at dealerships.

The second phase of cooperation will see them develop a cloud based service that relays driving conditions to vehicle owners. The final phase will use 5G to eventually power autonomous cars.

Geely has a good history working with Sweden, having acquired technology from Volvo back in 2010 from Ford Motor Co.
