Sinopec advances shipping lubes technology

Asian refiner gains Wartsila accreditation for shipping lubes and improves domestic testing facilities

After 4,000 hours of rigorous testing, Sinopec Corp's marine cylinder oil 5070 has passed the Wartsila certification processes. The internationally-recognised certification is an important landmark for the company's marine lubes business.

Wartsila is a Finnish manufacturer of specialised diesel engines for ships, which is currently the world's second-largest two-stroke ship engine producer. Wartsila and MAN, from whom Sinopec's marine lubricants also received accreditation, comprise over 90% of the global two-stroke engine market for large ocean-going ships.

Meanwhile, on land Sinopec is also making improvements to its domestic testing facilities. Recently, a Shanghai testing plant, owned and operated by Asia's largest refiner, was significantly enhanced and can now test lubes products to a wide range of international OEM standards.
