Sleeping on air

A US passenger chose a bad flight on which to fall asleep.

The passenger, Tom Wagner, had been travelling from Louisiana to Houston on an internal US flight when he fell asleep. Unfortunately, in a scenario that would be more likely to happen in a dream than reality, neither the cabin crew nor fellow passengers noticed him after the plane had landed, leaving him still asleep in his seat.

The plane was parked, the systems shut down and the unfortunate passenger awoke to find himself alone in a darkened plane. After coming to terms with the fact that the aircraft hadn't simply stopped for refuelling and was actually locked-down, he was forced to contact his partner by mobile phone. She, in turn, contacted the airline - domestic group ExpressJet - who eventually released him from the plane after a further 30 minutes.

The sleep-turned-nightmare ended reasonably well for Mr Wagner who, after missing his connecting flight to California, was given a hotel room for the night and compensation by the airline.

However, he is unlikely to get much sleep next time he flies.
