Meanwhile, Forrester research reveals that 72% of US online adults send or receive personal emails on their smartphones at least once a week, while according to eMarketer, a predicted 1.76bn people owning smartphones worldwide by the end of 2014.

If marketers are questioning the value of email compared to social media, the figures quoted by McKinsey & Co. say it all - email's effectiveness in acquiring customers is nearly 40 times that of Facebook and Twitter combined.  This is reflected in an Econsultancy report on email's Return On Investment (ROI) which OATS previously reported.
