Graphene nanoplatelets enhance performance of greases and lubricants

Graphene nanoplatelets are set to enhance the performance of greases and lubricants, according to research.

BfB Oil Research in Belgium added small amounts of Applied Graphene Material’s product to base oils. The result was reduced friction and wear on metal surfaces, with the nanoplatelets provide a strong lubricating barrier between contact surfaces.

Michael Boucher, BfB’s Technical Manager, commented: “The results from our test work are very instructive and show that Applied Graphene Materials’ well dispersed graphene nanoplatelets offer the potential for significant property improvements in oils and greases.”

The company is hoping the technology will be used in commercial applications of greases and lubricants in the near future.
